Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of an Athletic Coach - Head. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching certificate preferred. County teacher substitute certificate a minimum requirement. Teaching and/or coaching experience preferred. Experience playing the sport. Experience coaching the sport. Demonstrated ability to work with high school students. Good character. References from supervisors and coaches.

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Recommends and implements approved policies of the Athletic Program. Directs the overall activities of his team, recommends budget requests for supplies and equipment, provides for the welfare of his athletes, maintains, and enhances the school’s standing in the community through the conduct and performance of his players, and fulfills such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Athletics. The authority and responsibility of the Coach extends to assistant coaches and all athletes specifically pertaining to his particular activity in providing for the health, safety, physical, mental, and educational development of each athlete in his charge.

  1. Operation

a. Plan, coordinate, and direct the training program, practice sessions and scheduled competitive contests for his team within established policies.

b. Supervise the maintenance and care of the athletic fields, gymnasium, locker rooms, equipment and supplies as assigned to his team for their use and activities.

c. Establish and maintain good public relations within and without the school through cooperation with news media.

d. Attend meetings and conferences related to coaching activities as approved by the Director of Athletics.

  1. Organization

a. Recommend the organization and supervision of his area of responsibility to meet approved objectives of the athletic program.

  1. Personnel

a. Develop and recommend policies for student participation in team activities as concerns the health, safety, and general welfare of his athletes.

b. Instruct and direct athletes in the mechanics and techniques of the particular sport, a program of physical fitness and mental alertness; the qualities of good sportsmanship; and the value of continued personal satisfaction through competition with others.

c. Direct, supervise, and counsel assistant coaches so as to affect the execution of their assigned responsibilities.

  1. Finance

a. Initiate and develop budgetary requests for supplies and equipment and justify such needs to the Director of Athletics.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
