POSITION: Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities (Grade 8-12)

LOCATION: Livingston, NJ

HOURS: Monday- Friday 8:15 am-3:15 pm, 12 months with paid recess

SALARY: Commensurate with Experience

Pillar High School, located in Livingston, NJ, is an approved private school for students with disabilities serving high school students from age 14 to 21. Pillar High School is currently seeking a full-time teacher to work in a supportive environment with a focus on teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop students’ individualized Education plans (IEPs) and implement a high-quality curriculum while differentiating instruction to meet the needs of each child's IEP.
  • Develop lesson plans following curriculum for students with disabilities in compliance with NJ student learning standards 
  • Use a broad range of assistive technology, lesson adaptation, and instructional strategies to address the diverse instructional needs of students.
  • Work collaboratively with professional staff using a team-based approach.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and assistance to classroom aides and one-to-one nurses.
  • Follow student’s IEP/behavior plan to enhance learning by enforcing classroom rules and policies. 
  • Participate during IEP meetings and collaborate closely with families and related service providers to support student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: B.A./B.S. Degree; N.J. certification as N.J. Teacher of Students with Disabilities or N.J. Teacher of the Handicapped (Grades 8-12); previous experience with developmentally disabled students preferred.  Standard Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility required.
