Preschool Teacher (Co-Teacher)

The preschool program at Rockaway Valley School in Boonton Township is integrated with both typical and special needs learners.  Two teachers instruct the program equally for both types of learners.  We are looking for an early childhood educator who can start after the winter holiday (January).

We are looking for a teacher who

• has a P-3 license and either Teacher of the Handicapped or Students With Disabilities certification
• experience with autism, ABA and discrete trial, highly preferred
• prior experience in preschool

The successful candidate will

• have an understanding of prompt levels and how to fade them
• how to break down a task or skill into simple steps
• identify functions of behaviors (i.e. attention-seeking)
• understand how to follow through with directions and provide consistent consequences
• provide varying levels of reinforcement
• understand how to navigate non-compliant/tantruming/eloping children
• be physically able to move a tantruming child with the support of another teacher

Additional responsibilities include

• coaching and support paraprofessionals
• support students in the bathroom
• collaborating with classroom coteacher
