Description

The South Amboy School District has the following anticipated opening for the 2024-2025 school year.  Rate of pay will be commensurate with experience:

 SCHOOL OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

 QUALIFICATIONS:      

  • Must hold a valid, current New Jersey Department of Education Standard Occupational Therapy Certificate.      
  • Experience working in a school setting, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment as part of a team.
  • Provide specialized professional therapy, evaluations, and remediation for a variety of fine and gross motor disorders and/ or delays
  • Develops, implements and coordinates the school district's occupational therapy program within the school district, including philosophy, vision, procedures and goals.
  • Screens, evaluates and monitors students with disabilities or physical mental impairments for the purpose of providing educational programs, therapeutic intervention, and transition and exit planning and enhancing their ability to perform activities of daily living or participate in desired occupations.
  • Collaborates with staff to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, as well as student outcomes.
  • Evaluates the student's ability and formulates the student's occupational profile, providing written reports that reflect strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and guides evidence-based intervention.
  • Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs.
  • Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
  • Assesses the need for assistive technology and equipment and makes recommendations for its use at school to help students function as independently as possible.
  • Documents occupational therapy services, and maintains records in accordance with school district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
  • Develop goals and objectives for intervention deemed appropriate for each student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). The OT will be expected to provide specialized professional therapy during the entire year as outlined in each student's IEP with the understanding that the goal of the school based Occupational Therapy is to support and maximize educational participation in class.
  • The OT may be needed to provide direct or consultative services. Direct services include individual, small group sessions or integrated in-class activities, Consultative services include but are not limited to observation of student, review of work samples, consultation with parents and teachers, and participation in meetings and as needed, recommend equipment / materials and obtain measurements for equipment in a timely manner to assist the district in obtaining competitive quotes for necessary specialized equipment / materials.
  • The OT may be required to participate in the district's parent/ teacher conferences, applicable parent clinics and / or offer professional development training.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to obtain residency within one year of employment

REPORTS TO:    Director of Pupil Personnel Services/Director of Special Services
