Paraprofessional

Title Special Education Paraprofessional 
Qualifications:

• High School Diploma; college-level coursework in education or related field
• Demonstrated ability to assist with instructional activities and to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff.
• Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices.
• Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Assists the classroom teacher in the delivery of an effective instructional program.
• Works with individualized students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher.
• Reads to students, listens to student read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
• Assists the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
• Assists, under a teacher direction, in the collection and administration of behavior management systems and procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality of student records.
• Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the special education teacher/teacher or building principal directly related to a good learning experience for students.
