Fort Lee High School Mentor Program
Mentors
Program Description: Fort Lee High School’s Mentor Program, Bridgemen Believe, provides students with one-on-one long and short-term support. Students have the opportunity to connect with and learn from faculty members who will focus on promoting positive family and peer relationships, decision making, academic success, time management, goal setting, self-care and college/career readiness.
Mentor Qualifications
- Must hold teacher or educational service provider certification
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment as part of a team
- Must be currently employed by Fort Lee Public Schools
Mentee Participation
- May be referred through I&RS process
- May be referred by faculty members
- Parent/guardian or student request
Mentor Responsibilities
- Meet with assigned mentees, in-person, 1 hour per week
- Empower mentees to resolve current concerns and develop coping strategies for the future
- Acknowledge mentee’s strengths and talents while encouraging them to find ways to use them
- Be an active listener and offer support and encouragement, when appropriate
- Assist mentees in the establishing goals and creating steps to accomplish them
- Maintain records of meetings and student progress
- Provide regular updates to program coordinator, as requested
Start date: October 22, 2024 - June 30, 2025 - with the possibility of summer hours, if needed.
Compensation: 55$/hr
