Job Goal: |
To perform general and preventive maintenance services and related repairs to district buildings, structures, machinery and equipment necessary to maintain the physical school plant and grounds in excellent operating condition. |
Qualifications: |
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Required criminal history background check, drug screening and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to perform required tasks.
- Must be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, as necessary.
- Knowledge of methods, procedures, materials and equipment used in building maintenance work.
- Five years of experience as a custodian, maintenance worker or in the building trades.
- Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, and understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Possess a valid NJ Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities: |
- Performs general maintenance duties which may be assigned in one or more of the following areas: Carpentry; Driving; Electrical; Grounds keeping; HVAC; Locksmith; Masonry; Painting; Plumbing; Inventory Control.
- Responsible for daily operations, maintenance and repair including daily logs, preventive maintenance tasks and reporting requirements.
- Ensures maintenance requests and work orders are completed satisfactorily
- Performs all maintenance and repair work in a safe, clean and efficient manner.
- Operates all motorized vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Drives vehicles to and from job sites.
- Ensures that appropriate supplies, equipment and tools are available at work sites to complete assignments.
- Completes work correctly and in a timely manner and in compliance with departmental performance standards and applicable building codes.
- Knowledge in all environmental issues, concerns and codes.
- Assists in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of maintenance supplies, tools and equipment.
- Works cooperatively with other maintenance workers and provides direction and assistance to maintenance helpers.
- Reports damaged or deficient building systems in need of replacement or repairs to the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds.
- Utilizes good human relation skills when dealing with colleagues, students, supervisors and the public.
- Performs duties as described in the Custodial and Maintenance Workers Handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
