Job Purpose: Junior ROTC Instructors are responsible for leading and managing the JROTC program, teaching the Aerospace Science portion of the program, and ensuring that the program is in compliance with the Air Force/School District contract


Responsibilities: 

Conduct academic classes using the outline Air Force JROTC curriculum

Supervise leadership development requirement activities for cadets (LDR)

Coordinates guest speakers and coordinates and/or delivers job training workshops and classes for students

Assist with managing and tracking students in the JROTC program

Participate and lead advisory meetings for the JROTC programs

Order and inventory all cadet uniforms

Maintain the security of all cadet uniforms

Maintain a schedule of students in the JROTC program

Coordinate busing and scheduling of all related LDR for JROTC students

Review all incoming freshman student packets for accuracy and completion

Monitoring and supervision of students on and off campus

Provide presentations to underclassmen and current students to continue to build the program

Communicate program related developments to Director of Vocational Education & CTE and high school administration

Assist the Director of Vocational Education & CTE with preparing the yearly budget for the program

Other duties as assigned for the growth of the program

 

An Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor is expected to prepare for and teach periods of instruction of 45 to 90 minutes each, for as many as 4 to 6 periods per day, depending on a particular school's schedule

An Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor is expected to coordinate and lead a variety of school activities, possibly held before or after each school day, both indoors and outdoors

These activities may include physical training events, academic clubs, rocketry teams, marksmanship teams, along with performing drill instruction and demonstrating drill sequences

Leading extracurricular activities involves significant organizational skills, strong team building skills, and physical stamina

An Air Force Junior ROTC instructor is expected to lead field trips to historical sites, visits to local government agencies and military installations, and to march in parades with their cadets


Qualifications

Secondary School Teaching Certification

Strong communication skills (including public speaking)

Strong organizational skills

NJ Teacher Certification:  Military Science


Ability to motivate students

Complete any additional state and/or local school district mandated teacher certification or continuing education requirements

Successfully incorporate Air Force Junior ROTC-approved interactive learning software/hardware with classroom instruction

Have a competent knowledge of curriculum planning, Air Force educational programs, drill and ceremonies, and educational administration, including tests and measurements

Academic, administrative, logistical, financial support tasks, and after-school activities as related to JROTC

Complete the mandatory Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC) as a condition of certification
