Responsibilities

How You Can Make a Real Impact: 

 

The Speech Therapist  provides direct, consultative, and supportive diagnostic and therapeutic services for communication and oral motor disorders to students, faculty, and staff members to enhance the students’ potential for learning and assist students in the acquisition of functional performance skills needed to access, participate in, and benefit from, the educational environment.

  • Conducts diagnostic assessments of the need for communication and oral motor skills for individual students, as needed or as assigned, to provide a comprehensive student profile:
    • On an ongoing basis, determines the need for therapeutic intervention, level of intellectual functioning, communication and oral motor abilities, and achievement performance;
    • Working in tandem with external Audiologist, reviews records of students and interprets the results of audiological testing to determine and follow-up on specific therapy, treatment, and intervention required for individual students.  Provides recommendations for service delivery;
    • Provides reassessment of students, focusing on targeted areas of need at established intervals;
    • Assists in the planning and development of goals specific to communication and oral motor therapy and treatment services that are educationally relevant, achievable, measurable, and can be effectively utilized in each individual’s educational program.

Education & Experience:

Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology to include a National Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) required. N.J. State Department of Education (DOE) Certification as Speech Language Specialist required.
