School Security Specialist
To create an environment that nurtures children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, setting a strong foundation for their future success in school and beyond. The Early Childhood Security Specialist ensures the safety, security, and well-being of preschool students by enforcing safety protocols, ensuring safe arrival and dismissal protocols, monitoring outdoor activities, and managing traffic patterns of vehicles on school premises. Ultimately, their primary focus is on establishing a secure and nurturing environment where children can thrive and reach their fullest potential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people
- Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
- Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing and data management information retrieval
- Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Model high standards and expectations for students.
- Work cooperatively and collectively with principals, district staff, and parents to ensure that effective safety practices are consistently and effectively implemented in the preschool.
- Monitor arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure the safety of all stakeholders.
- Monitor students during outdoor activities to ensure their safety.
- Conduct regular patrols of the preschool building and grounds
- Assist teachers and instructional associates in monitoring students while in the school building and during gross motor activities.
- Greet visitors at the front desk and ensure all visitors’ procedures are followed. Regularly monitor who enters and exits the preschool premises to ensure only authorized individuals are allowed access.
- Maintain a regular, visible presence in the building during the school day to promote and maintain an environment that facilitates positive behavior and student success.
- Serve as a member of the school’s Emergency Management Team. Be prepared to respond swiftly and appropriately to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, or security threats.
- Handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Handle multiple situations simultaneously while prioritizing action steps that focus on the safety and well-being of students and staff.
- Serve as an effective and proactive problem solver.
- Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school.
- Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, and demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning.
- Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Principal or Director. Answer correspondence promptly.
- Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
- Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. Participate in training sessions to stay updated on security procedures, emergency response protocols, and child safety practices.
- Perform any duties that are assigned by the Principal or Director.

The Early Childhood Security Specialist shall be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with Board Policy.
