Description  
POSITION: TEACHER – MATHEMATICS
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive school-wide mathematics program in the Lower School which facilitates learning; for modeling of best practices lessons which use mathematics-based learning strategies; for assisting teachers in all curriculum areas on how to enhance students’ mathematics skills; for identifying staff development needs of the school and for providing staff development related to mathematics as part of the problem solving process; and for working with school and community groups, such as the Instructional Leadership Team and grade-group learning  communities, to meet our stated covenant:  every child, every classroom, every day.
 
Instructional Program
  1. Create a mathematics environment conducive to effective instruction
  2. Facilitate mathematics instruction based on current research throughout LEAPs total Lower School instructional program
  3. Demonstrate (model) mathematics/learning strategies in classrooms
  4. Evaluate mathematics needs within various subject areas and collaborate with teachers and
  5. administrators to interpret, use assessment data to improve instruction, and problem solve
  6. Use assessment data to assist administrators with placement of students in appropriate instructional or intervention programs
  7. Lead faculty in the selection and use of a range of assessment tools as a means to make sound decisions about student mathematics needs as related to the curriculum and to instruction
  8. Conduct regular meetings with classroom teachers to examine student work and monitor progress in order to support teacher reflection and action
  9. Assist classroom teachers with analysis of formal and informal assessment data on their students to determine student response to instruction
  10. Provide, upon request, individual diagnostic testing
  11. Assist the administrators and teacher-leaders in planning for and implementing the
  12. accountability goals associated with the School Improvement Plan
  13. Work with the Instructional Leadership Team, and teachers to determine the school’s strengths and needs for improvement in the area of mathematics in order to improve students’ analytical and critical thinking skills and content area achievement
  14. Assist teachers with planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of mathmematics instruction
  15. Participate in Instructional Support Team reviews concerning academic progress of students who are not responding to interventions and are at-risk
  16. Work with administrators to assure articulation from Lower to Upper School
  17. Attend scheduled meetings
  18. Assist the Director of Special Education and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in providing services to special populations
 
Professional Development
  1. Provide training and follow-up support to assist classroom teachers in the use of mathematics/learning strategies in their classrooms
  2. Work with teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and/or with administrators,
  3. providing practical support on a full range of mathematics learning strategies
  4. Observe and provide feedback to teachers on instruction related to mathematics development and content area knowledge
  5. Continue professional growth and strengthen professional teaching knowledge, skills, and strategies through an ongoing program of workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work
  6. Maintain a collection of professional and mathematics/learning materials related to the subject and which reflect current research
  7. Provide staff development for teachers and parents/families as needed

  3. Establish rapport with faculty and staff

  6. Uphold school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies
  7. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities
  8. Interpret the school's reading/learning program for staff, parents, and members of the community
