Description TITLE:  Speech & Language Specialist - Part time hourly
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. New Jersey DOE Educational Services Certificate as a Speech Language Specialist.
  2. Current Certification of Clinical Competence given by American Speech Hearing Association.
  3. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in the field of speech language pathology
  4. Ability to effectively apply the principles of ethical standards related to assessment and treatment of speech and language deficits in students grades K-12th.
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  6. Strong adaptability and flexibility
  7. Current driver’s license and be willing and able to treat students in a variety of locations across Monmouth and Ocean County.
 
REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Services or designee
 
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
The speech and language specialist provides both direct and consultative services for the purpose of enhancing the student's ability to participate in the educational program. The speech and language specialist functions as a member of an interdisciplinary educational team and/or as a case manager in identifying the student's abilities and limitations and in implementing the ISP.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Receive and record initial referral information and requests, observe students, review the student’s clinical history, and identify the need for and request supplementary information through appropriate channels.
  2. Plan, prepare, and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language deficiencies.
  3. Provide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders and participate in team conferences related to those pupils.
  4. Develop and implement an Individualized Support Plan (ISP) in conjunction with parents and teachers for pupils who are eligible for speech and language services only.
  5. Provide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been classified.
  6. Keep those records necessary for each child and complete all required local, state, and federal reports.
  7. Participate in the development and improvement of opportunities for disabled/exceptional students by providing individual or group in-service experiences for staff and parents.
  8. Conduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program.
  9. Act as an educational consultant to classroom teachers, child study team members, and administrators as needed.
  10. Navigate a student data system to log services, input assessment data, and develop ISP.  Training will be provided.
  11. Prepare special reports as required by his/her supervisor.
  12. Keep abreast of current practices and procedures.
  13. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned by the designated administrator.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       10 Months -  part time
EVALUATION:         Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the MOESC’s Board’s policy on evaluations of professional personnel.
