Description Job Title:  Special Education Supervisor (Anticipated)
Reports To:  Director of Special Education Job Purpose:  The Supervisor provides instruction, leadership and supervision to the teachers assigned to his/her department in achieving the educational goals approved by the Board of Education.  Unless otherwise indicated, the term “departmental”, when used hereafter in this job description will refer to the supervisory responsibilities of any special education program at any grade level. The Supervisor will have K-12 curriculum responsibilities for special education and will have K-12 observation and evaluation responsibilities of their assigned staff.    Qualifications-Required: Master’s Degree from an accredited institution (college or university) NJ Supervisor or Principal certification Standard NJ Teacher or Educational Services certificate with Child Study Team or Special Education Teacher endorsement Extensive experience with autism instruction and behavior management Minimum of five (3) years of successful CST, direct teaching experience using ABA and discreet trials for instruction, and supervisor or director of special education. Maintains knowledge of state content area certification. Knowledge of special education legal requirements Excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people Excellent technology skills Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Excellent presentation skills Ability to communicate effectively with parents/guardians of students Ability to pass the required Criminal History Review and the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Ability to pass the pre-employment physical exam Possess a valid NJ driver’s license   Qualifications-Desired: Doctorate in Special Education Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Handle with Care certification   Duties/Responsibilities: Completes observations, PDPs for special education teachers. Reviews weekly lesson plans. Coordinates Department Meetings Reviews and updates curriculum. Reviews SGO assessments and quarterly assessments and makes recommendations. Reviews and approves common assessments. Facilitates parent/teacher conferences as needed.. Attends PLC meetings. Completes Monthly Reports. Updates Program of Studies. Submits budget requests on schedule. Completes purchase orders. Keeps inventory of textbooks and equipment. Keeps informed of NJ Standards and makes recommendations for curriculum changes. Makes recommendations for professional development for staff members. Secures bids/quotes of equipment/materials. Interviews candidates and recommends them for hire. Reviews textbooks for selection. Completes district recommended trainings. Develops curriculum in collaboration with K-12 staff members and building principals. Develops a professional awareness of current curriculum developments through readings, visitations, in-service courses and workshops, and membership in various professional organizations designed to achieve this goal. Interacts with department and/or K-12 instructional staff for the purpose of informing staff members of additional instructional resources, trips, materials and teaching techniques. Coordinates the development of department diagnostic and achievement testing programs. Serves as the first resource to teachers who may be experiencing instructional and/or discipline problems of special education students. Works closely with CST members and teachers to resolve student specific issues. Attends IEP and other student meetings as needed.  Addresses parents, issues concerning instruction, discipline, placement and teacher concerns.  Assists the Director of Special Education and building administration in recruiting, screening and recommending the selection of staff members.  Assists the Director of Special Education and building administration in establishing teacher and related service provider assignments based upon sound instructional planning.  Assists the building administration in developing a master schedule that allows the unique needs of the special education programs to be met.  Recommends to the Director of Special Education and building administration the retention or dismissal of staff members. Advises, cooperates and coordinates program needs with CST members, the Director of Special Education and building administrators. Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulations governing the provision of special education programs and services in assigned buildings.  Develops a current and accurate department inventory of all instructional area equipment, tests, technology, supplies, etc., and supervises the care and use of such items.   Working Conditions: 12-Month Position Salary Minimum of $91,910 as per EHTPSA Agreement
