Hawkswood School, a NJ approved private school for students with disabilities, is searching for part-time Teacher Assistants to work with students on the autism spectrum and students with multiple disabilities, ages 3 through 21. This is a wonderful opportunity for matriculated students to gain valuable job experience, earn a competitive hourly wage, and obtain tuition reimbursement.

Teacher Assistants work closely with students under the direction of the classroom teacher and therapists in meeting each student’s individual program goals through academics, functional communication skills, social skills and behavioral supports.

The employment of Teacher Assistants is a well-established and successful practice in education. At Hawkswood, we recognize the value of Teacher Assistantships for educating college and university students as developing professionals in training and for the important roles Teacher Assistants serve in interacting with, inspiring and helping Hawkswood students, and for providing critical support to teachers.

Work hours (mornings or afternoons):

Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. for a total of 18.75 hours per week

OR

Monday – Friday 11:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. for a total of 18.75 hours per week

 

Salary Range: starting at $15.13 per hour. Increases are based upon experience and achievement of credit hours.


Benefits: Tuition Reimbursement of 18 credits per academic year, not to exceed $9,900 per academic year, based upon the reimbursement rates in Hawkswood School policy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The teaching assistant must be a matriculated college student and must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

    • Must hold a minimum of a High School Diploma

    • Previous experience with special needs children or adults is helpful

Successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of matriculation and grade point average, as well as complete a physical and drug screen, and a NJ Department of Education criminal history background check.
