JOB GOAL:

To provide an approved education program and establish a learning environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with members of the local education agency to identify the learning capabilities, as well as the physical and educational needs of those assigned to them.
  • Delivers an instructional program, with the advice of the student’s regular teacher, for each assigned student receiving home instruction.
  • Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age appropriate for the student and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of the student.
  • Sets specific objectives in lesson preparation and lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
  • Establishes a rapport and cooperative relationship with students’ parents or guardians.
  • Files written progress reports on each assigned student with the student’s parents or guardians, the student’s regular teachers, and the Director of School Counseling or Director of Special Services.
  • Keeps, maintains, and files such reports and records as the Director of School Counseling or Director of Special Services may require, including attendance reports.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of School Counseling or Director of Special Services.

Instruction and student contact

  • Monitors student academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
  • Maintains records of students' educational progress in Genesis or other district grade book forms or electronic grade book as assigned.
  • Identifies student needs and provides instruction appropriate to those needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a climate conducive to learning.
  • Budgets time effectively.

Contact with parents and community

  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about student progress.
  • Informs parents when students are in danger of a failing grade for the semester or course.

Professional contacts and activities

  • Cooperates with other faculty members in assessing and resolving learning problems.

Other

  • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
