JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Supervisor of Language Arts Literacy

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Supervisor’s certificate or certificate of eligibility.
  1. Minimum of five (5) years experience in the area of public school education, with related experiences in teaching.
  1. Administration and communication skills.
  1. Required criminal history background check and proof of S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Reports to: Director of Elementary and Secondary Education

Supervises: Teachers

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Provide direct supervision of grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12 Language Arts Literacy programs through regular classroom visits, and offer positive suggestions relative to more effective approaches in individualized, small-group and homogeneous instruction.
  1. Assist Principals and Vice-Principals relative to providing assistance to teachers in the development, evaluation and improvement of teaching techniques.
  1. Evaluate teaching staff members, as assigned by the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  1. Participate in staff recommendations, including non-renewals, appointments, transfers, or discipline.
  1. Assist in the development of Language Arts Literacy education classes.
  1. Participate in the process of recruitment, selection, appointment and orientation of new Language Arts Literacy teachers.
  1. Develop and improve the curriculum in Language Arts Literacy programs by leading, directing and working with the appropriate supervisors, consultants, resource teachers and other members of the professional staff.
  1. Maintain regular contact with outside agencies interested in Language Arts Literacy education techniques and problems.
  1. Analyze and interpret pre- and post-test data in conjunction with appropriate principals and supervisors.
  1. Conduct ongoing evaluation of the Language Arts Literacy program for grades Pre-K through 12.
  1. Maintain copies of all necessary records and forms related to the Language Arts Literacy program.
  1. Assist the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education in supervising and directing the professional growth of appropriate staff members through regularly scheduled staff meetings and workshops and through individual and group conferences.
  1. Assist principals, appropriate supervisors and teachers in the procurement, distribution and use of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment and software pertaining to the instruction of Language Arts Literacy instruction.
  1. Supervise and direct learning community teams in the development of integrated curricula as instructed by the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  1. Develop and implement Safety Net activities to improve student academic outcomes.
  1. Maintain an inventory of all instructional materials, supplies, equipment and software pertaining to the instruction of Language Arts Literacy.
  1. Work with the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education in the development and improvement of district curricula related to Language Arts Literacy.
  1. Prepare reports as requested by the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  1. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Terms of Employment:

Twelve (12) months; tenurable

Evaluated by the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education, consistent with statute, code and collective negotiations agreement.

Compensation and benefits as established by the Administrator’s collective negotiations agreement.
