The Child Study Team Social Worker plays a crucial role in supporting students' emotional, social, and academic development within the school environment. This professional will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and other specialists to identify and address students' needs, develop individualized education plans (IEPs), and provide direct support services.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
Conduct comprehensive psycho-social evaluations of students referred to the Child Study Team.
Gather information through observations, interviews, and reviewing student records.
Participate in the development of IEPs by providing relevant social and emotional insights.
Direct Support and Intervention:
Provide individual and group counseling to students facing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.
Develop and implement intervention strategies to support student success.
Offer crisis intervention services as needed.
Provide case management services to support students and parents
Collaboration and Consultation:
Work closely with teachers, school counselors, psychologists, and other members of the Child Study Team to develop and implement effective educational strategies.
Consult with parents/guardians to support their child’s educational and emotional needs.
Serve as a liaison between the school, family, and community resources.
Advocacy and Resource Coordination:
Advocate for students’ needs within the school system and the community.
Coordinate with community agencies to provide additional resources and support for students and families.
Assist families in navigating special education services and related processes.
Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
Prepare and submit required reports and IEPs in a timely manner.
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to special education and student support services.
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution
Certification: Valid New Jersey state certification as a School Social Worker
Experience: Previous experience working with children and adolescents in a school setting preferred
Skills:
Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
Proficiency in crisis intervention and conflict resolution
