Middlesex County STEM Charter School (MCSCS) is a public school serving grades Kindergarten through 8th grades and open to all students who reside in the City of Perth Amboy. The school is free to all students and families and is a replication of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, a recipient of the 2016 Blue-Ribbon Award and other prestigious awards.

Security Teacher

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.

  • Monitoring school grounds, controlling access to the building, assisting in emergency situations, and collaborating with school personnel to maintain a safe learning environment. 

  • Responding to incidents, enforcing school policies and regulations, and providing support during drills or crises. 

  • Follows building procedures during emergencies or disasters and ensures they are executed effectively.

  • Notifies building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations.

  • Monitors and assists students during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal to ensure a smooth transition.

  • Ensures students move efficiently through the hallways and arrive on time to class or assigned locations.

  • Assists with student supervision during breakfast and lunch periods.

  • Incident management and reporting involves assisting disruptive students by removing them from the classroom and escorting them to the appropriate supervisor or administrator

  • Notifying appropriate personnel when evidence of substance abuse, abuse, neglect, severe medical, social conditions, and potential suicide. 

  • Promoting student responsibility involves modeling positive behavior, maintaining professionalism, ensuring confidentiality, and encouraging students to follow safety protocols.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community, while showing integrity and initiative.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Security, Building Principal, or other appropriate building/district administrators.

Essential Duties:

  • Communicates responsibly with students, colleagues, and school leadership;

  • Accounts for the whereabouts of students, staff, and visitors 

  • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures;

  • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;

  • Demonstrates excellent integrity and good moral character and initiative.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

  • Valid Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) License is required.

  • AED/CPR Certification is preferred but must be willing to obtain upon employment.

  • Minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in a security-related field.

  • NJ Criminal History;

  • Work authorization in the U.S.;

  • Tuberculosis Test;

  • Experience is a plus.
