JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:  I-513 - Before and After Care Program Caregiver

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

 

The Caregiver shall have a minimum of a high school diploma. They shall meet the qualifications required by the school laws of the State of New Jersey and the Wayne Township Board of Education.  The caregiver should have prior experience working with school age children in an educational, camp, or recreational environment.  Good oral and written skills are necessary, as well as the ability to work effectively with children and the childcare team.

 

REPORTS TO:  Site Lead Caregiver

JOB GOAL:  Provides supervision of and direct care to participants enrolled in the Before and After Care Program.  Steps up into Site Lead role in the Site Leads absence. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants in the Extended Day Program. 

  2. Greets and assists participants and parents when they are arriving and departing from the Before and After Care Program.

  3. Actively supervises participants in common areas as well as on the playground.

  4. Facilitates group activities in the program rooms.

  5. Assists the Site Lead Caregiver with reports and paperwork as needed.  Accurately completes all paperwork.

  6. Redirects, deescalates, and reinforces appropriate interactions and social skills. 

  7. Assists with setup and distribution of snacks, equipment and other supplies. Ensure all supplies are cleaned up and the room is left as it was found.

  8. Escorts and monitors participants using the lavatory.

  9. Maintains discipline among the participants and maintains control of the childcare area.

  10. Supports and aids participants during a quiet and calm homework time.

  11. Follows all safety and security procedures.

  12. Documents and reports behaviors, accidents, and concerns to child’s parent/guardians. 

  13. Establishes a cordial and respectful relationship with peers, parents, school staff and supervisors.

  14. Travels to other district elementary schools’s Extended Day Programs to assist when deemed necessary. 

  15. Accepts change in site assignment when deemed necessary. 

  16. Performs other duties as assigned.  

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

 

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of  non-certificated staff.
