Great Oaks Legacy Charter School (GOLCS) is seeking an experienced, like-minded urban educator to lead its Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program located at the GOLCS High School campus in Newark, NJ. The CTE Director will ensure the efficient operation and management of the Career and Technical Education programs and supports the overall educational responsibility of the system. Furthermore, the CTE Director will support the College & Career Office to ensure alignment of CTE Program objectives with critical postsecondary imperatives, and support the High School Campus Director in maintaining a vision for student achievement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Great Oaks Legacy CTE Director is responsible for:

  • Planning, developing, and administering the GOLCS CTE Program; budget according to NJDOE regulations and internal policies and procedures, and balancing all projects within scope of activities; creates programming that promotes access and equity and bridges achievement gaps in CTE programs.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators, student’s services personnel and college and career counselors, and teachers to ensure the development of multiple tracks for the delivery of career development services aligned with community need and student interest.
  • Supervises professional development experiences for faculty, program events, and personnel related to CTE programming.
  • Prepares and submits amendments to NJDOE as appropriate and completes and submits reports per the NJDOE deadlines for submission.
  • Based on data and advisory board recommendations, build industry recognized credentials into CTE programs.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Strategy Officer, research other CTE grant opportunities and possible connections.
  • Supervises CTE Program staff and oversee CTE Programs of Study.
  • Works with GOLCS Finance Leader and department to oversee funds are aligned with the original budget.
  • Works with counselors to appropriately place students in Programs of Study
  • Oversees all industry certification testing, professional development for CTE teachers,  preparation of yearly inventories, tagging of equipment, and submission of the inventory to the State Department of Education.
  • Oversees Advisory committees and organize monthly department meetings for CTE teachers and staff.
  • Stays current on Carl Perkins Federal and State regulations that affect our programs.
  • Attends State CTE quarterly meetings, summer conferences annually.
  • Maintains close working relationships with community and state agencies and area businesses, industries, and labor organizations to provide training consistent with needs.
  • Continuously appraisees and evaluates the total CTE program to ensure that it achieves the established goals of providing the opportunity to prepare for gainful employment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting CTE
  • Assumes responsibility for the collection, review, and submission to state agencies of all forms and reports relative to CTE.
  • Makes recommendations for long-term adjustments, changes, additions, deletions in the CTE program to meet changing job trends and needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment, screening, and interviewing of prospective CTE teachers
  • Other duties, projects and initiatives as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The CTE Director must have:

  • Principal, Supervisor, or School Administrator certification, or meet the requirements for certification, preferred.
  • At least five years of successful experience teaching and leading in an urban school environment; Grade level leader, department chair, or instructional leadership experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with issues related to career and technical education, student retention and completion, and academic programming.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and build and maintain relationships and partnerships, both internal and external.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing programs, planning events, and/or strategic planning initiatives; ability to use creative and critical thinking to problem solve and develop innovative programs.
  • Two years of program, project or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to create detailed reports, documents, presentations.
  • A clear record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom, with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results.
  • A relentless work ethic and commitment to achieving the school's mission.
  • Excellent management, leadership, and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead instructional and non-instructional staff.
  • Excellent skills of organization and follow-through.
