The Benjamin Banneker Preparatory Charter School is seeking a talented Elementary Teacher.
As a BBPCS staff member, you will provide an approved education program and establish class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- *Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate and Subject Area Endorsement or eligibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in use of educationally appropriate technology.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
*As defined in N.J.A.C.- 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates.

SUPERVISES: Pupils, and when assigned, student teachers and paraprofessionals.
JOB GOAL: To provide an approved education program and establish class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents/guardians and other staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Believe and personify the mission, vision and goals of the school and follow the Banneker System.
- Works to achieve national and NJ Student Learning Standards and supports the Board of Trustees and administrations philosophy, educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using Board-adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides opportunities for individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Sets specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans and carries through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives.
- Assesses pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction through Unit Assessments.
- Maintains records of pupil's educational progress in class record books/electronic-digital grade books/parent portal and/or Board approved forms and, summarizes these marks for reporting purposes.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
- Works cooperatively with special education and resource teachers to modify curricula pace and delivery as needed for special needs students.
- Devises written and oral assignments and tests and other related assessments to include appropriate integration of technology that require analytical and critical thinking as well as the utilization/recall of facts and appropriate data.
- Plans class activities/labs and lesson presentations that are appropriate for the class grade level and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all pupils.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them (i.e. electronic media including e-mail, web posting and phone/written communication) about the school program and to discuss pupil progress.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Budgets class time effectively.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive subject/program related displays and bulletin boards.
- Maintains professional appearance, competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
- Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
- Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
- Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
- Meets professional responsibilities and maintains a professional relationship of all school staff based on the principles of integrity.
- Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned. Such duties shall include but not be limited to:
- Providing extra help to students.
- Teaching Enrichment Periods
- Planning of lessons.
- Participating in discussions relating to grade level/subject area curriculum and instructional methodology.
- Participating in curriculum and materials needs assessment activities and minor curriculum update and revision.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief School Administrator/CEO.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $50,000-$56,000 to be approved by the Board of Trustees.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with State law and the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
