School Counselor
Approximate Start Date: July 01, 2025
Salary for the 2025-2026 year - $76,497
(must work 20 days in the summer, which is already included in the salary)
This position includes full health benefits. If choosing to waive out of health benefits, you will be entitled to receive an annual waive out payment of approximately $5,000-$13,000 dependent upon plan/coverage.
Primary Function:
Support the school counseling department in its efforts to provide academic, post-secondary planning, and social-emotional support to students in each building. The primary goal of the school counselor position is to help students achieve personal fulfillment by providing them with guidance and counseling services to make successful personal, educational and life plans.
Personal/Professional Qualifications and Experience:
- CEAS or Standard Certificate: School Counselor (2702)
- Experience in counseling preferred
- Experience in school testing coordination preferred
- Experience in Naviance preferred
- Broad knowledge of testing and evaluation, theories of individual and group guidance techniques, school guidance program design, and career educational information and placement preferred
- Understanding of the laws guiding, and the importance of, confidentiality for students in the public school counseling program
Primary Performance Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Providing direct assistance to students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the use of teacher input, student discussion, interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data. Works with students in evolving educational and career plans in terms of such evaluation.
- Collaborates with the child study team, anti-bullying team, intervention team, and registrar to help facilitate planning for all students and programs as they pertain to your role as a school counselor including involvement in the referral process, orientation and transitions between programs, etc.
- Assist in providing smooth transitions between grades and schools, which may include orientation programming for students and parents
- Assist in facilitating district programs by supporting student choices, implementing speaker assemblies, classroom lessons, visits, etc.
- Assist in developing the master schedule and managing the scheduling process in conjunction with the Counseling Team and the administration.
- Implement state testing with the testing team, including state testing scheduling and management, graduation requirement tracking, and AP/SAT/ACT, etc. assessments.
