Job Description:
The Assistant Principal is responsible for:
School Culture. The Assistant Principal defines and builds a transformative school culture consistent with Philip’s Academy’s core values and mission. With the leadership team, the Assistant Principal designs and implements programs and initiatives; devises school-wide rituals that promote the culture and sustain the school’s values. The Assistant Principal develops positive relationships with all stakeholders, including staff, students, families, and community members/organizations.
The Assistant principal ensures the appropriate placement of applicants and actively participates in explaining the curriculum, instructional practices, and overall educational system to staff, parents, and students including coordinate and monitor the communication regarding individual academic concerns with parents as appropriate: progress reports and report card distribution with DSO and teaching staff
Instructional Leadership. Provide instructional leadership for the school, including: maintaining school-wide focus on high standards of student achievement; ensuring teaching state standards; managing process for analyzing data to increase student achievement; and supporting all teachers and staff members in their professional development including but not limited to onboarding, PLCs, and coaching plans. Observe, coach, and evaluate teachers and staff on a consistent basis; Coach Grade Level Leads and Mentor Teachers and serve as an expert resource to teachers on issues of school culture, classroom management, discipline and relationship with students and families.
The Assistant Principal analyzes assessment results and engages teachers in best practices for responding to data analysis; plan and oversee the RTI process and manages and/or teaches intervention plans school-wide; support decision making around curricular choices; review graded assessments and assist in making grading schedules; help plan and coordinate mission-aligned, academically driven field trips.
Student Management. The Assistant Principal works with the leadership team to define and implement behavior management tools, including overseeing staff training in behavior management policies, techniques, and strategies, and ensuring the consistent deployment of such tools school-wide and collaboration with families. The Assistant Principal works with appropriate staff to develop school wide programs and create a school-wide identity among the students.
Staff and reporting relationships
The Assistant Principal reports to the School Lead. The Assistant Principal directly supervises all building certified and instructional staff.

Candidates must have:
- At least three years of successful experience teaching in an urban school environment; Grade level leader, department chair, or instructional leadership experience.
- A clear record of elevating student achievement in an urban classroom, with a strong understanding of pedagogy that drives results.
- A relentless work ethic and commitment to achieving the school's mission.
- Excellent strategic planning, leadership, management, and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead instructional and non-instructional staff.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent skills of organization and follow-through.

Master’s Degree
Certification:
Principal and Supervisor, or Principal, or SA are required.
