Description ATHLETIC TRAINER

 Must Have NJ Board of Medical Examiner Certificate and a DOE Certificate.
Position is 1/30/25 - 5/15/25


QUALIFICATIONS:          
  1. Must hold an athletic trainers license from the National Athletic Trainers Association.
  2. Must receive approval by the N.J. Board of Medical Examiner.
  3. Demonstrates experience and success in performance of responsibilities to be listed.
  4. Must hold advanced First Aid certification.
  5. Any addendum to the past qualifications as the Wayne Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  6. Shall meet any additional requirements which may be required by State Board of Education.
NATABOC Certified
NJ State License
NJ DOE Certificate or Eligible
High School experience helpful

 
REPORTS TO:         Building Principal and Athletic Director
 
SUPERVISES:          Athletes
 
JOB GOAL:              The athletic trainer serves in such a manner as to maintain the health and welfare of athletes.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:        
  1. Works in conjunction with school doctor, knowing his/her limitations of training in referring to the school physician any areas of question.
  2. Operates all training modalities for the rehabilitation of injured players under the ultimate direction of the school doctor.
  3. Is in attendance at daily practice sessions for all sports within appropriate time guidelines.
  4. Maintains records of all injuries and illnesses that could impair the player’s efficiency and health in order that they may be referred to the personal physician as per established procedure, a copy of record is provided to the school nurse.  The school physician will make the ultimate decision.
  5. Coordinates all injuries for insurance purposes with school nurse.  Maintains accurate records of training modalities performed.
  6. Maintains supervision over any athletic trainer interns, directing them in their respective duties.
  7. Maintains complete first aid kits for all sports.
  8. Responsible for supervision, cleanliness and upkeep of training room facility.
  9. Performs such other duties in his area of responsibility as needed.
  10. Maintain accurate records for emergency contacts of every athlete.
  11. Maintains accurate records of all recommended NJSIAA pre-participation testing; concussion and heat acclimation.
  12. Immediately reports any injury or illness requiring hospital attention to the Site Coordinator at the High School, and the Athletic Director.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
 
ANNUAL EVALUATION: 
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluations.
 
METHOD OF SCHEDULING: 
The athletic trainer will be scheduled by the director of athletics and the principal during the school year based on extracurricular needs of the school.  At no time is this athletic trainer to be scheduled more then the equivalent of the appropriate regular teacher work schedule for the entire school year.  This means the trainer’s schedule may fluctuate according to the needs of the extracurricular program, but is not to exceed a regular teacher schedule.  Care must be taken not to over-commit one particular season thereby depriving athletes of services later in the school year.
