Special Education Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Elementary Special Education, the Certified Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students.
Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification.
- Qualified candidates must have strong collaborative, planning and performance assessment skills; be knowledgeable in a variety of teaching strategies and a demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural, diverse community.
Essential Requirements:
- Evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives;
- Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
- Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
- Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Create a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources.
- Comply with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
- Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
- Employ and implement a consistent classroom structure to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
- Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers.
- Provide consultation to general education classroom teachers and related service providers regarding classroom adaptations.
- Knowledgeable of, and ability to, implement classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, behavior modification plans, assist in the use of adaptive equipment and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Design and deliver instruction geared towards the individual needs and capabilities of the students in the class.
- Knowledge of current special education methodologies and co-regulation techniques and strategies.
- Experience working with students with a wide range of academic abilities.
- Patient, resourceful, reflective and resilient.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
