Description

Mount Saint Mary Academy is seeking a full-time School Counselor for immediate hire.  The counselor will support the Academy’s instructional program and counseling activities, which are designed to assist students in their personal, social, and intellectual development consistent with the goals set by the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy.  This will include the management of a caseload of students and counseling those assigned students in their academic, personal, and social development.  The counselor will utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote student success; work closely with administration, faculty, and staff members; provide preventive services; and communicate regularly with students and parents. 

The ideal candidate will have attention to detail; strong interpersonal, technological, and organizational skills; and experience in high school student counseling.  The candidate should have a master’s degree in the area of school counseling or a related field.  Experience as an SSD Coordinator and working with students with testing accommodations and learning differences is preferred.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee transcripts and fulfillment of graduation requirements
  • Coordinate submission of quarterly grades with the Registrar and teachers
  • Serve on the Student Assistance Committee
  • Instruct and approve curriculum for students in grades 9 and 10 in Counseling Seminar classes covering topics appropriate for each class level, including Freshman Success and Sophomore career development
  • Serve on Admissions Committee; review and interview incoming 8th grade applicants
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of accommodations for students with documented learning differences
  • Oversee SSD testing requests and work with Somerset County in developing and providing accommodation plans
  • Supervise the Pre-ACT standardized testing for our students
  • Serve as chairperson of the National Honor Society
  • Help plan and be present at events or informational workshops for families to learn about the Counseling Department and college planning and application process, including Senior Parent Night, Junior Parent Night, College Information Night, and Freshman/Sophomore Parent Events
  • Assist the Director of College Counseling with the College Fair and AP Exam proctoring
