Are you a wizard of words, a slayer of similies, and a literary lexicon? Do you dream in metaphors and sometimes (literally) find yourself explaining the difference between “there” and “their"? Do you feel an unnatural bond with Shakespeare and quantum physics at the same time? If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, we need you to join the fun at the Creativity CoLaboratory Charter School (C3, for short), where English, art, science, and sometimes math* collide in the most beautiful, chaotic way possible! (We realize math may cause you undue stress).
We are potentially looking for a new ELA teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. As our new ELA Teacher, you will not just teach literature—you will incorporate the arts, dance, and science in ways that make your students question whether they’re attending a classroom or a Broadway musical. In this role, you will guide our aspiring poets, future authors, and hopefully some future rocket scientists through a whirlwind of writing prompts, creative expression, and projects that might involve paint, animation, or possibly interpretive dance. It's like teaching ELA... but with WAY more glitter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Literature Through a New Lens: You’ll teach novels, short stories, and poems as if each were a low-budget film adaptation. Be prepared to stage a dramatic reading, have students build a diorama using cardboard and yarn, or choreograph a dance to demonstrate the theme of various texts.
- Art + Writing Collisions: Students will draw, animate, and rap their way through thematic essays. You’ll turn their passion for kinetic energy into a thesis statement. You’ll literally see their minds “click” as they create a piece of artwork explaining the literary themes of stories while simultaneously explaining how they would design an eco-friendly castle for a dystopian novel.
- STEAM + Storytelling: You will tie science experiments to storytelling in ways that challenge even the most logical of minds. For example, when reading "The Outsiders", be prepared to have a heated discussion on whether or not Ponyboy could invent a robot sidekick to solve his problems, and how coding a robot could help him write better essays.
- Grammar with Jazz Hands: Teach grammar through improv comedy sketches. Can a semicolon do a dramatic monologue? YES, YES IT CAN. Will your students suddenly start having existential debates about Oxford commas while interpreting a Jackson Pollock painting? That's up to you!
- Classroom Management: You’ll be managing not only their questionable interpretations of literature but also their very real need to paint, sculpt, and play with extremely questionable quantities of glue at the same time. Your classroom will sometimes resemble an art gallery, and other times, a science lab explosion. Flexibility and creative vision are a must.
Qualifications:
Must Have:
- A degree in English, Education, or related field
- A New Jersey ELA Teaching Certificate, CE, or CEAS
- A strong knowledge of English Language Arts… and how to teach it in an interdisciplinary manner that challenges even yourself.
Bonus Skills:
- Can you teach "Macbeth" using interpretive dance? Because we might ask.
- If you’re able to explain why the scientific method can be applied to evaluating plot structure in a mystery novel, then... you’ve won our hearts (and the trust of every future middle school scientist).
- Are you able to pull off teaching a cross-curricular project involving Shakespeare, chemistry experiments, and a rock band? If so, welcome home.
- Fluency in Gen Z Slang is greatly appreciated.
Perks & Benefits:
- Unlimited access to a classroom full of “what ifs” and “why nots?”
- A limited supply of glitter, markers, and enough glue sticks to get you through an entire school year (maybe).
- An incredible 100 acre campus that is filled with the most wonderful students on the planet
- A team of equally creative colleagues who believe that C3 is a crazy place to work
- Competitive salary
