Job Description:
Manages and supports the Child Study Team in its evaluation and determination process;
Acts as the Case Manager and Special Education Supervisor as well as perform truancy visits for all students;
Serves as the agency designated reporter of child abuse/neglect for the District;
Assesses child abuse/neglect allegations by individuals that include, but are not limited to, parents, guardians, relatives, family friends, and District employees;
Conducts required training for mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect;
Provides casework assessment and services to students and their families;
Works with schools to implement attendance programs and support compliance of the compulsory attendance law;
Attends all court hearings on petitions filed;
Conducts home visits to assess the social environment, emotional, physical, and safety needs of a student and to verify residency as requested by schools;
Assists schools in determining guardianship, placement and/or residence of students;
Assists parents and students with referrals to community agencies and resources;
Maintains case records and related statistical data, demonstrating knowledge of various student information and software programs;
Submits accurate monthly reports electronically on School Social Work Services provided at each assigned school;
Solicits the aid of community agencies and resources to provide tangible needs to the individual student and his/her family;
Works with parents and children in a confidential and caring manner and assists the family, school, and community in any way required to bridge gaps between family and school.
Additional Requirements:
Participates in District-level and school-based professional learning activities for continued professional growth;
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work is required.
Certification/Licensure: NJ Dept. of Education School Social Worker Certificate and LSW, with LCSW eligibility within 2 years.
Experience: Experience as a case manager, writing IEP's and working with a child study team is required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of norms of behavior at stages in a child’s growth and development as affected by chronological age;
Knowledge of laws which affect children such as child labor, guardianship, custody, and compulsory school attendance;
Must be willing to take legal action if necessary to help a student and his/her family Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with community agencies;
Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities;
Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues;
Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people;
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Choice of 10 month or 12 month contract.
Pay: From $59,000.00 per year DOE for 10 month contract;
From $65,000 DOE for 12 month contract
