Description

New Road School of Parlin is seeking a highly self-motivated and creative Music Teacher.  Experience with students with cognitive and developmental disabilities preferred.  Must have knowledege of Google Classroom. The applicant must also be knowledgeable in instuctional practice and working with students at multiple academic and social levels.  Experience with behavioral management techniques a plus.

Music Teacher of Students with Disabilities

The New Road School of Parlin, Middlesex County, NJ is a private special education school serving developmentally disabled students aged 5 to 21.

Responsibilities:

  1. Cooperates with the necessary Child Study Team to develop an I.E.P. for each student in music class. Implement the I.E.P. providing practical research-based education with the guidelines of the program.
  1. Evaluate students’ progress by preparing four (4) PowerSchool report cards, and two (2) Frontline progress reports. The due dates for the reports are set at the beginning of the school year.
  1. Records and maintains assessment data.
  2. Help students learn to appreciate music and identify different notes and musical styles such as modern music, classical, jazz and pop.
  1. Introduces students to musical instruments.
  2. Teaches students how to play and take care of musical instruments.
  3. Aid students in understanding the basic principles of music, such as melody, beat and tempo.
  1. Arranges performance opportunities for students, such as concerts for family and friends.
  2. Organizes performance groups and direct rehearsals.
  3. Cooperates and/or coordinates music programs with other agencies providing services to students.
  1. Adheres to health and safety standards; at no time should a student be left unsupervised in a classroom, outside activities, or community-based activities.
  1. Prepares and submits lesson plans as required.
  2. Attends all required staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
  3. Establishes a communication system with parents to keep them informed of their child’s progress.
  1. Provides ongoing information and support to classroom teacher to ensure consistency in the program.
  2. Other duties as assigned by the Director/Principal.

      

     

     

    Requirements

    • Bachelor of Music in Music Education
    • Teacher of Music Certification

    Experience:

    • Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
    • Special Needs: 1 year (Preferred)
    • Working With Students With Disabilities: 1 year (Preferred)

    Job Type: Part-time

              3 Days a week; Part-time Hours: 8:15am – 3:15pm; (except for in- service and staff meetings)
