Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist (OT)/Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our team in a school-based setting. As a school-based OT/COTA, you will work collaboratively with students, parents, and educational staff to support the needs of students with disabilities and challenges. Your role will include assessing students' abilities, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing therapy interventions to promote their participation and success in the school environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual motor skills, self-care abilities, and other areas relevant to occupational performance
  • Collaborate with the educational team to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with identified needs
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and IEP goals
  • Provide direct occupational therapy services to students individually or in small groups, targeting areas such as fine motor skills, sensory integration, visual motor skills, self-care skills, and activities of daily living
  • Utilize therapeutic interventions and techniques to address students' goals and promote independence, functional skills, and participation in the school environment
  • Collaborate with teachers and other education professionals to integrate occupational therapy strategies into the classroom and daily routines
  • Provide support and education to teachers, parents, and caregivers regarding students' individual needs and strategies for carryover in various settings
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed and maintaining accurate and timely documentation
  • Attend and contribute to IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other school-related meetings
  • Stay informed about current practices, research, and trends in school-based occupational therapy through continuing education and professional development activities

OT Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Valid state license/certification to practice as an Occupational Therapist
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
  • Strong knowledge of child development, sensory integration, and occupational therapy assessment and intervention techniques
  • Familiarity with special education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective teamwork
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the school environment

COTA Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program from an accredited institution
  • Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current state license or eligibility for licensure as a COTA in the state of [state]
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
  • Knowledge of child development and pediatric conditions that impact occupational performance
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment relevant to school-based therapy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, parents, teachers, and other team members
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain accurate documentation
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs and dynamics of a school environment
