Description
Title: ELL Teacher
Qualifications:
Must possess NJ Teacher Certification
. ELL/ESL Certification and undergraduate major in ESL/ELL (ESL, ELL, linguistics and English are all considered appropriate majors), or 30 credits equivalent to a major or a graduate degree in the content (ESL, ELL, linguistics or English).
Strong background in and understanding of Common Core State Standards and NJ Model Curriculum
Firm belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, and high expectations for low-income children to become college ready and attend selective universities
Excellent written and verbal skills
Self-reflective and analytical problem solver
Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others
Prior experience in similar position preferred
Pass a Criminal History Review under the provisions of P.L. 1986, C116 and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Pass a physical examination in accordance with applicable governmental regulations and board policy.
Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriates and acceptable.

Job Goal:
The ESL / ELL teacher is to prepare lesson plans and to teach English Language Learners. This includes teaching English grammar, writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills. It may also include teaching pronunciation and accent reduction. The job of an ESL / ELL Teacher involves teaching English to students whose native (primary) language is not English. Since most schools in other countries are required to provide ELS instruction, the teacher must develop ways to ensure every student he/she teaches learn how to speak and write English proficiently. The ESL/ELL teacher must also administer appropriate diagnostic tests in order to both qualify and discontinue students within the program.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Exemplify and advocate the mission, vision and core values of the Camden County Educational Services Commission and associated non-public schools
2. Teach and reinforce all school-wide expectations, systems, and routines
3. Create detailed coaching plans, which include focused goals and measures of success, to drive learning cycles.
4. Design and produce teaching materials
5. Administer appropriate diagnostic assessments as needed
6. Assess student performance and progress
7. Maintain accurate and timely records
8. Collaborate with fellow teachers, assistants and other professionals
9. Serve as an expert in national trends and best practices in ESL /ELL curriculum development and instructional strategies for historically underachieving students
10. Facilitate small group intervention and instruction
11. Provide all other duties as required
Terms of Employment:
Work schedule, assignment and compensation to be established by the Board of Directors where applicable.
