General Mechanic
Essential Qualifications:
- Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Minimum of a high school diploma.
- Experience with HVAC, strong preferred.
- Five years experience working in building trades, with multi-trade background including electrical, plumbing, hvac, and all aspects of general construction and building maintenance repairs.
- Acceptable statement of condition of health rendered by licensed physician with no medical restrictions on manual labor.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Ability to operate and maintain all power equipment including riding mowers, tractors, backhoe, plow truck and snow blowers.
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and fulfill assignments with a minimum of direction.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, parents, community members, and students to maintain and strengthen sound human relations for the improvement of the school program.
- Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural, diverse community and with other employees. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine construction and repair work including plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, electrical and HVAC.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair on a variety of automotive and mechanical machinery and equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, snowblowers, and other power equipment using jacks, power tools, hand tools and various testing equipment.
- Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
- Assemble, install, repair and maintain plumbing and heating systems.
- Install maintain and repair glass in windows, doors and partitions.
- Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment.
- Install floor tiles, acoustical ceiling systems and wall paneling.
- Prepare and smooth surfaces for painting; erect scaffolding and/or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level, using safety precautions.
- Operate power equipment and machinery as required.
- Keep all the areas assigned in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Perform related snow removal requirements, including plowing, snow blowing, shoveling, salting and sanding.
- Implement the professional improvement plans as specified in the observation and/or evaluation reports.
- Perform, as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee, additional or alternate duties that may add to the effectiveness of the education program of the Teaneck Public Schools.
