TEACHER OF HVAC/R
 PAYNE TECH



The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a 10-month Teacher of HVAC/R at Payne Tech for the 2024-25 school year.

Position Purpose
- Under the general supervision of the School Principal, will provide comprehensive instruction in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration systems to high school students. The instructor will equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a career in the HVAC/R industry or to further their education in a post-secondary technical program. The role involves teaching both theoretical concepts and practical skills, preparing students for industry-recognized certifications, and promoting a safe learning environment.


Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HVAC/R, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in the HVAC/R industry.
  • Teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided for candidates with strong industry backgrounds.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain relevant HVAC/R certifications (e.g., EPA 608 Certification).
  • Possess or be eligible for a teaching license.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach and relate to high school students effectively.
  • Proficient with HVAC/R-related software and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, safety procedures, and industry best practices.


Performance Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Duties:
    • Develop and implement a curriculum that covers the fundamentals of HVAC/R systems, including safety protocols, system installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
    • Deliver engaging lessons that accommodate various learning styles and ensure students achieve competency in HVAC/R skills.
    • Instruct students in the use of tools, equipment, and software commonly used in the HVAC/R industry.
    • Incorporate hands-on lab activities and real-world scenarios to enhance practical skills.
    • Assess student performance through tests, quizzes, assignments, and hands-on projects.
  • Program Development and Coordination:
    • Collaborate with the CTE department to align the HVAC/R program with industry standards and certification requirements.
    • Participate in the development of course outlines, instructional materials, and lab setups.
    • Maintain an updated inventory of equipment and materials, and order supplies as needed.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with local HVAC/R businesses and community partners for student internships, job placements, and guest speakers.
  • Student Engagement and Support:
    • Provide guidance and support to students regarding career paths, industry certifications, and further education.
    • Prepare students for industry certifications such as EPA 608, NATE, or HVAC Excellence.
    • Encourage student participation in skills competitions and industry-related events.
    • Monitor student progress and provide additional support or tutoring as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Enforce all safety protocols in the classroom and lab settings.
    • Ensure compliance with school district policies, state regulations, and industry standards.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections of tools, equipment, and lab facilities.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay current with HVAC/R industry trends and advancements.
    • Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and training as required.
    • Maintain any necessary certifications and licenses related to HVAC/R instruction.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
 This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
2024-2025 contractual rate

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center.  In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees.
