QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent.
Fireman’s Black Seal License.
Certified Educational Facilities Manager (CEFM) certification preferred.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License.
Demonstrated knowledge of architecture, school construction, plant operation, maintenance and management, and school safety.
Experience in project estimation of labor and supply needs and ability to supervise and coordinate the activities of department staff.
Required criminal history review background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
SUPERVISES: District maintenance and custodial personnel.
JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with a safe, clean and comfortable school environment that is efficiently operated, and to carry out administrative tasks required to maintain and operate the plant to the required standards.
HOURS: The position will operate on the basis of an 8-hour work day, with the understanding that this time will be divided on a regular basis to encompass both a.m. and p.m. hours as needed. The Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds will also be on call 24 hours a day for any emergency situation, and be available on weekends as needed to supervise the handling of any special functions.

EVALUATION: The Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds will be evaluated through a minimum of 3 observations during the year, and through an annual summary evaluation based upon the components of the job description.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes responsibilities for the comprehensive overall planning and scheduling of maintenance, repair requirements and security of the district’s schools, office facilities and grounds.
- Directs the maintenance of all buildings and grounds as to cleanliness and safety.
- Assigns, supervises and evaluates all custodial and maintenance staff.
- Assists in the establishment of specifications pertaining to supplies, materials, equipment and local contract work.
- Recommends for purchase necessary equipment and supplies, and maintains an inventory of them.
- Maintains schedules of work for each individual building and sees to it that proper supplies are on hand in that building.
- Establishes and supervises summer cleaning programs and schedules.
- Keeps abreast of new work methods, procedures and equipment.
- Ensures that standards consistent with all applicable local, state and federal laws are maintained.
- Inspects all school buildings, grounds and installations on a regular basis to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security are maintained.
- Plans and implements a program of preventive maintenance.
- Organizes and implements an orientation program on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for departmental personnel.
- Ensures proper maintenance and operation of department equipment, including motorized vehicles, tools and machinery.
- Inspects and maintains fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Assists with preparation of the budget for maintenance, grounds, security and custodial supplies and equipment.
- Supervises and inspects, as directed by the Business Administrator, improvement and renovation work performed by outside contractors.
- Confers with administration, landscape architects and other parties in making plans for landscaping, planning and maintenance of various school grounds.
- Maintains such records as are required by Board Policy or law.
- Performs maintenance tasks during time periods when not supervising other personnel or carrying out other supervisory job functions.
- Assists with custodial tasks during emergencies and on occasions when the regularly assigned personnel are otherwise detained or absent.
- Any other tasks as assigned by the Business Administrator.
