Description Job Title: Mathematics Teacher
Classification:  Non-Exempt
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work:  Full-Time Position.  Monday – Friday 7:50 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Reports to:  School Principal
 
 
Essential Functions:
  • Deliver effective, high-quality, rigorous instruction in the content areas that produce high levels of student achievement, both academic and linguistic; as given to you in the school curriculum and planned for in your lesson plans.
  • Deliver exceptional aligned and standards-based instruction in assigned content area(s) and grade levels(s) that ensure academic growth for all students; as evidenced in your lesson planning from the school curriculum
  • Develop daily and unit lesson plans that are thoughtful, thematic, goal-oriented and aligned with curriculum, and carefully planned lessons for substitutes when unable to attend school;
  • Differentiate instruction for students of different linguistic, cultural and academic backgrounds, as well as for students with different learning styles;
  • Possess and maintain a mastery of the content knowledge area and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade(s);
  • Develop relevant materials and adapt existing curricula to meet the needs of students;
  • Possess a high level of technological understanding and a willingness to take advantage of professional development opportunities in the area of technology and assessment, as well as immersion education and related areas;
  • Maintain adequate records of students’ achievement and behavioral performance on school’s online management system and complete report cards promptly;
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding homework assignments, current content areas, achievement of academic goals, as well as classroom performance and behavior. Maintain accurate records of all parent communication and meetings;
  • Be available for parent/teacher conferences, parent/student orientations, awards nights and Graduation ceremonies;
  • Establish a good working relationship with other teaching professionals, for integration of best practices into the classroom and into the curriculum;
  • Implement the school-wide discipline policies in the classroom and throughout the school; and attend disciplinary hearings as needed;
  • Maintain a neat, clean classroom environment that enhances learning;
  • Attend regular faculty meetings, PLC meetings, Departmental meetings and PICCS-TIF training and professional development sessions.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Vice Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
 
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of the identified language, in terms of grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, and literature.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications:
  • Hold a valid New Jersey certificate in Teacher of Mathematics.
 
Educational Background and Work Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least two years urban teaching experience preferred. 
  
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Work in a standard office setting and school building environment, walking, climbing up and down stairwells.  Depending on the duty, the employee may have to lift and / or move objects up to 10 pounds. 
 
SALARY, TERMS & AFFILIATION
 
  1. Salary: Negotiated based on experience
  2. Employment Period: Ten (10) Months
