JOB TITLE: Language Arts Teacher- Grades 9-12

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New Jersey Standard Certificate in Language Arts required
  • Minimum experience as determined by the board
  • Substitute certificate required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and ability to maintain a positive Least Restrictive Environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Proof of Highly Qualified Status
  • Physical and Mantoux Test

ACCOUNTABILITY: Building Principal

JOB SUMMARY: Assume responsibility for instruction of all assigned students in designated subject matter area(s) in accordance with the course of studies and curriculum approved by the Board of Education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In the following areas, a teacher shall have general and specific duties listed:

  • Plan and develop a program of study under the direction of the Principal that meets the individual needs, interest and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom or occupational learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Assume responsibility for understanding the objectives, scope and sequence of the curricular program.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum.
  • Utilize instructional methods, techniques and materials that are most appropriate for reaching the stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishment of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required by Board of Education policy and administrative direction.
  • Enforce and uphold all school rules, regulations and administrative Board policies.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures within policy guidelines and maintain order in the classroom or shop in a fair and just manner.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Prepare a program budget in accordance with established guidelines for this purpose.
  • Motivate all assigned students to master designated subject matter for entire assigned period(s).
  • Remain abreast of psychological and societal social trends which may affect students attitudes and willingness to learn.
  • Remain abreast of current developments, new trends and contemporary interpretations of subject matter content in assigned area(s).
  • Remain abreast of current developments, new interpretations in methodology of teaching in the subject area(s) to which assigned.
  • Assist in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Work closely with counselor/coordinators, supervisor, principal and other appropriate staff in counseling students regarding subject matter and those other factors that may affect students classroom or shop behavior and the learning process.
  • Supervise student behavior in the hallways, multi-purpose room, large group instruction area and on school grounds for the safety and well-being of students, district personnel and visitors.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to assist with extra curricular activities when needed by advising or supervising activities in conjunction with the development of students in accordance with Board of Education and state Board of Education policy.
  • Promote the program and school in the community through active support and participation in the annual Winter Shop Competition, National Vocational Education Week, Annual Open House, County Fair, etc.
  • Demonstrate an attitude consistent with carrying out district goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the establishment and operation of craft or program advisory committees.
  • Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of instructional equipment under his/her assigned area(s) and complete required inventories.
  • Prepare lesson plans in accordance with Board of Education policy and administrative procedures to carry out the goals and objectives of assigned area(s).
  • Maintain an attendance record in accordance with Board of Education standards and goals.
  • Assist with students job development and placement.
  • Encourage, stimulate and provide motivation for positive student attendance in accordance with Board of Education policy and goals.
  • Maintain professional standards in interactions with students, parents, and other staff members.
  • Maintain professional standards of appropriate appearance as mandated by job responsibilities and
  • Perform other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by immediate supervisors and/or the superintendent of schools under the authority of the Board of Education.

INTERACTION: Must be able to communicate and work with students. The ability to motivate students is extremely important. Must also be able to communicate and work with parents, the community, certificated and noncertificated support staff, supervisory staff and the building [or program] Principal.

COMPENSATION GUIDE: Appendix B-6, Teacher – Placement is contingent on credentials and experience. Teaching positions are for 10 months unless otherwise specified by the Board of Education. The normal employment period shall be from September 1st through June 30th unless otherwise specified.

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Salary: From $57,990.00 - $79,899.00 per year
