Bridge Coach
Office of Student Support Services
The Superintendent invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Bridge Coach
(Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval)

Definition:
The Newark Board of Education is currently looking to hire a college student, who is a graduate of Newark Public Schools, to serve as a “Bridge Coach,” who will work with graduating high school seniors to help them apply to and matriculate into college. Bridge Coaches will work under the supervision of the designated school counselor from August 2024 to August 2025. Bridge Coaches will be responsible for working approximately 430 hours over the course of the year (including virtual and in-person training, and in-person school-based work).
Qualifications:

  1. Currently attending college in New Jersey
  2. Be a graduate from a Newark Public School
  3. Enrolled part-time or full- time in college as a Sophomore or Junior, in good standing, in the 2024-25 school year
  4. Strong written and verbal communication and time management skills
  5. Demonstrated Commitment to the work of supporting student opportunity and success
  6. Letter of recommendation from current professor or mentor.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft and Google suite


Responsibilities:

A. School Year: August 2024 – June 2025

  1. Working on-site at the school approximately 10 hours/week from September to June to assist students with paperwork and tasks involved in applying for college and career opportunities, including college applications and enrollment process.
  2. Attending all College Bridge and Mentor Newark training (in-person and virtual) starting in August.
  3. Facilitating workshops for seniors throughout the year and help plan and lead school-wide events and trips related to the college process.
  4. Supporting students through the financial aid application and verification process.
  5. Tracking student progress through the college application process and meet weekly with college counselor to review all graduating seniors’ status to guide the work that should be completed.
  1. Summer: July 2025 – August 2025
  1. Working approximately 10 hours/week in July and August of 2025 to assist students with the paperwork and tasks involved in enrolling in post-secondary destinations.
  2. Attend all College Bridge and Mentor Newark training (in-person and virtual).
  3. Tracking student progress through application and matriculation steps and meet weekly with supervisor to review students’ progress.


Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Be able to work in-person at their high school placement.
  2. Understanding of obstacles encountered in applying to and registering for college.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication and time management skills.
  4. Demonstrated Commitment to the work of supporting student opportunity and success.


Reports To: School Guidance Counselor
Salary, Terms and Affiliation:

  1. Salary: Annual Stipend of $7,310 (paid monthly)
