LONG-TERM LEAVE REPLACEMENT ~
SCHOOL COUNSELOR

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:
Assumes professional responsibility for providing comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services for high school students, so that each student develops the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the NJ Student Learning Standards.  Working collaboratively with other members of the school staff and with parents, the School Counselor acts as an advocate for the student, arranging for appropriate resources when necessary, and assisting students in understanding the school and its environment, understanding themselves and their relationships with others, and understanding their strengths and needs.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:       

1. Hold a School Counselor certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Education, Standard preferred.
2. Broad knowledge of testing and evaluation, theories of individual and group guidance techniques, elementary/secondary school guidance program design and career educational information and placement.
3. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, staff and community groups and organizations.
4. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the components of a comprehensive developmental guidance program, child growth and development, strategies for effective educational planning, learning assessment and diagnosis, research related to learning and the resources available in the school and community to assist elementary students.
5. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
6. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and sensitive interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

TERMS:

• 11/1/2024-1/3/2025
• Per diem rate at Step 1 in the Collective Bargaining Agreement
• Reports to Principal and designated Supervisor
