This is a 10 month, full-time, tenure-track position with pension and benefits. Compensation is $59,252 or more, based upon level of education and years of contracted teaching experience and prorated based upon start date.

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State-mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students. Special Education Teachers ensure accurate and timely reporting to Associate Director as required by the state of New Jersey, regarding students’ performance and challenges, with recommendations for action and a summary of actions taken. Primary assignment may be a specific classroom (including homeroom duties) or teaching a particular subject matter in regular or intensive classes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads.
  • Serves as the primary contact for the parent.
  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises, or during school activities.
  • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
  • Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.
  • Ability to modify the curriculum based upon techniques need for individual learning styles, and experience conferring with parents, administrators, school psychologists, and other professionals to develop Individual Education Plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree in a related subject matter and/or equivalent 
  • Must have an active New Jersey Teaching Certification as appropriate for the position 
  • Leadership and team management skills

  • Organizational and self-management skills; ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Goal orientation; planning and execution skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations, and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school district and state.
