SUBSTITUTE PRINCIPAL
$400/daily rate


JOB GOAL:     To provide leadership and managerial oversight to the instructional program and school operations to ensure a school climate that safely fosters the educational development of each student in the absence of the school principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assumes responsibility for the management of the school in accordance with law, administrative code and board policies and regulations. 

  • Exercises leadership in school-level planning for the improvement of instruction. 

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. 

  • Maintains compliance with current New Jersey Department of Education initiatives and mandates. 

  • Maintains compliance with the Anti-bully Law and all procedures and timelines in support of the district’s compliance. 

  • Review annual data report which is submitted to the BOE concerning student assessment data for all children with specific reference to all applicable sub-demographic groups.

  • Assists in the establishment and execution of mandated testing. 

  • Establishes and monitors the master school calendar and coordinates all activities with the district master schedule. 

  • Develops and maintains a master schedule for the delivery of all academic programs. 

  • Collaborates on the implementation of approved programs. 

  • Plans, organizes and supervises all building-based extracurricular activities.

  • Coordinates with the curriculum office on implementation of before and after school curricular-based programs.  

  • Conducts observations of teaching/guidance/nursing staff members; prepares written comments; and offers constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate. 

  • Establishes and maintains an efficient office system to support the administrative functions of the school. 

  • Ensures the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records and documents; and the destruction of public records in accordance with law and regulations. 

  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with board policy and the student's rights to due process. 

  • Notifies immediately the parent or guardian and the chief school administrator to arrange for an immediate examination by a physician of any pupil suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or of using anabolic steroids.

  • Reports incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying, violence, vandalism and substance abuse; annual NJDOE Violence and Vandalism Report/HIB.

  • Works collaboratively with District security and law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe school environment. 

  • Participates in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils who are having difficulty in their classes and who have not been classified in need of special education. 

  • Regularly meets with the school safety team to review HIB trends, school culture and climate and recommends any modifications to the Superintendent.

  • Supervises the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration. 

  • Conducts staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 

  • Plans and supervises regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences; and plans for special conferences as necessary. 

  • Acts as a liaison between the school, home and community; interprets policies, programs and activities; and encourages broad community participation in the affairs of the school. Communicates information to parents and the community that is required by law or administrative code. 

  • Keeps the superintendent informed of school activities and needs and works cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district. 

  • Assumes responsibility for his/her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications. 

  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions. 

  • Ensures the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds. 

  • Performs other duties which may be assigned or required by law, code and regulation/board policy.
     

QUALIFICATIONS:     

  • New Jersey Principal's or School Administrators Standard Certificate

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Five (5) years successful experience as a Principal, preferred

  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
