Title:     LEARNING DISABILITIES TEACHER CONSULTANT (LDTC)

 

Qualifications:

Certification/License

  • NJ Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant Certificate

 

Education:

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment
  • Masters Degree

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education
  • Effective problem-solving, human relations and communication skills
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
  • Must pass criminal background check and fingerprints, pre-employment drug screening and TB test

Experience:

  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels preferred

 

Reports To:         Supervisor/Director of Student Services

 

Purpose:

  • To be responsible for conducting evaluation planning meetings and educational assessments for referred and classified children in order to determine whether the children are eligible for special education and related services
  • To provide case management services as per assigned caseload
  • To consult with team members, parents, teachers and other appropriate staff in order to design, implement and monitor individualized educational programs
  • To assist all teachers in developing and implementing appropriate pedagogy to maximize all students growth

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Services as an active member of the Child Study Team; evaluates and aids in the multi-disciplinary classification of handicapped children
  • Provides case management services
  • Consults with the psychologist, social worker and other appropriate staff to facilitate and understanding fo the educational strengths and needs of children referred and classified for services
  • Acts as diagnostician to conduct educational assessments of children and writes reports and educational programs to facilitate their learning
  • Works with regular and special education teachers, parents and other support personnel (guidance counselor, school nurse, etc.) to assist in implementing educational programs to meet the needs of individual children. This may also include the introduction of methods and materials to classroom teachers to assist them in planning programs beneficial to all children in the classes
  • Monitors programs such as resource center instruction, and checks on the appropriateness of the individual programs
  • Works with parents to explain the education assessments and programming needs of children
  • Works with the administrative staff to facilitate the implementation of education programs for children within the schools
  • Assists with, and takes part in, district-wide in-service training programs
  • Attends in-service programs and workshops in order to keep abreast of current developments in the field
  • Orders appropriate educational instruments and materials
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Supervisor/Director of Special Services

 

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
