Description Position: Special Education Lead Teacher - High School

Position Summary: Facilitates the effective and efficient operation of the special education program at the high school level.

Qualifications:  Possess or be eligible for NJDOE Instructional certification with Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement; Supervisor certificate, preferred.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide ongoing consultation to special and general education personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and Child Study Team members to assess the needs of specific students and implement instructional objectives.
  • Help develop an IEP meeting calendar by assigning teachers to each meeting.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Child Study Team to facilitate IEP development and implementation.
  • Meet with Department Supervisors, including Special Education, to enhance communication among supervisors, building administrators, teaching staff, and the Special Programs Department.
  • Participate in interviews for new teachers and Child Study Team members as positions become available.
  • Maintain communication with the middle school lead teacher and share essential dates with Special Education Teachers.
  • Determine common planning time/coverage for teacher training.
  • Manage student access to digital platforms as needed.
  • Support targeted populations with data review training.
  • Assist with writing Goals/Objectives (G/O) and Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) documents.
  • Support the PREP program at RHS.
  • Facilitate and manage paraprofessional schedules to ensure adequate coverage and provide onboarding support and feedback on their performance.
  • Conduct training sessions on special education policies and instructional strategies for staff.
  • Ensure necessary materials and resources are available for special education students.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and parents regarding special education matters.
  • Collaborate with students, families, and staff to ensure smooth transitions and appropriate support.
  • Facilitate student and parent tours as necessary.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.
