Description QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
 
  1. In good health as attested by physician after medical examination, and pre employment testing.
 
  1. Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
 
  1. Working knowledge of grounds equipment.
 
  1. Simple repair skills and maintenance methods.
 
  1. Awareness of factors of fire and health safety involved in the care of the buildings.
 
  1. Boiler License or a commitment to attain one within two years of date hired.
 
  1. Working knowledge of occupation hazards and safety precautions, and proper chemical use and storage.
 
  1. Ability to create personable relations with co-workers, building occupants, and public in general.
 
  1. Ability to speak, read, and write English so as to be able to communicate effectively at an eighth grade level.
 
  1. Completion of high school, or sufficient education to carry out verbal and written instructions and reporting procedures.
 
  1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.
 
REPORTS TO:       
Building Principal/Academy Administrator
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:             
The nature of the work consists of custodial work involving independent activity to keep school clean, sanitary, and in orderly condition; to perform minor maintenance tasks; perform assigned manual work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility and semi-skilled tasks that follow established procedures; job assignments are in the form of written or oral instructions and are performed under supervision and reviewed upon completion.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     
Twenlve-Month position.
 
EVALUATION:        
At least once annually in writing by the Building Principal/Academy Administrator
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Cleans/washes floors and ceilings, dusting and polishing furniture, washing windows, washing and cleaning rest rooms, disposal of garbage, and vacuuming, stripping, spraying, buffing, waxing, and polishing floors.
 
  1. Keeps paper and soap dispensers filled.
 
  1. Assists when and where required in the clean up of food, body fluids from sick or injured person following prescribed procedures.
 
  1. Sets up and shifts furniture and furnishings as required.
 
  1. Provides assistance to students, teachers, public, and any other employee as assigned as approved by Building Principal.
 
  1. Maintains grounds by cutting grass, collecting litter, raking grounds, performing minor repairs to walls, play apparatus, site improvements, and other minor repairs. 
 
  1. Snow removal per district’s Inclement Weather Procedures.  
 
  1. Regularly monitors buildings for pests and takes appropriate action in accordance with building and district procedures.
 
  1. Assists in building maintenance on a handyman’s level by cleaning gutters and drainpipes, where reasonable access is available, freeing stopped sanitary and sink plumbing, freeing stopped drinking fountains, repairing furniture, painting, replacing lights; tightening doorknobs; and cleaning traps, and performing other related work.
 
  1. Removes spots and/or graffiti from floors, furniture, and internal and external walls.
 
  1. Distribute teaching supplies and equipment as required as approved by Building Principal.
 
  1. Have knowledge of and operates heating, lighting, ventilation, and electrical controls as specified.
 
  1. Performs routine lubrication services and minor preventive maintenance services.
 
  1. Performs inventory control checks.
 
  1. Operates security systems and fire safety systems.
 
  1. Inspects buildings, reports deficiencies, maintains records.
 
  1. Maintains watch over property and grounds against trespassing, vandalism, and fire hazards.  Signal police and fire departments.
 
  1. Orders miscellaneous custodial materials and supplies.
 
  1. Performs other work as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.
