Director of Elementary Education, Curriculum, and Instruction
 
The Secaucus Board of Education invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Director of Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Principal or School Administrator’s (preferred) CE or Standard Certificate
  • Master’s degree in educational leadership
  • Three (3) years of supervisory/administrative experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
  • K-12 experience preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to inspire and lead professional staff members
  • Strong background in Educational Technology (preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary education curriculum and proven effective teaching methods utilized as vehicles to deliver the curriculum
  • Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development, curriculum integration, creative and innovative deliveries of the curriculum, and application of technology across the curriculum
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
  • Works with the principals and supervisors to oversee each school’s scheduling process, ensuring consistency and continuity of the instructional programs offered from Pre-K to 12th. 
  • Plans and presents a series of meetings each year to interpret to the Board of Education and the parents and public at large the educational program and vision of the District’s elementary schools.
  • Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of elementary school-based instructional personnel.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to elementary curriculum and instruction.
  • Continuously assesses proficiencies of each elementary staff member in the various curricular areas; in conjunction with the Elementary Principals makes recommendations for in-service training, professional development, and corrective action plans to enhance the instructional performance of each staff member.
  • Submits posting to the elementary school’s social media highlighting instructional and curricular developments in the elementary school program.
  • Formulates an instructional plan for all buildings and grade levels in conjunction with the administration.
  • Provides leadership in the facilitation and development of instructional programs and achievement of the New Jersey State Learning Standards, district goals, and objectives.
  • Assists in the implementation of the District’s in-service education program for the instructional staff and recommends teacher attendance at conferences and participation in other professional growth activities.
  • Participates in the work of county, state, and national curriculum study organizations, and groups.
  • Facilitates and presents professional development workshops on various topics in and out of the district.
  • Plans and administers programs of in-service educational activities for instructional staff.
  • Organizes and digitally pre-approves all field trip requests to be presented to the Board for final approval.
  • Creates and maintains a database of grant opportunities, calls for proposals at workshops, and presentations opportunities, and disseminates the information to the staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Develops and maintains a digital curricular library for staff use and public viewing on the www.sboe.org website.
  • Works with the principles in the development of programs in Grades Pre-K to 12.
  • Works with IT, oversees the implementation of Educational Technology in the school district ensuring that all digital licenses are directed to their respective students.
  • Organizes parent presentations/information sessions at both the elementary and secondary levels in conjunction with the supervisors and principals.
  • Facilitates monthly meetings between the superintendent and the supervisor to review programming and instructional issues.
  • Works with the supervisors to review standardized testing data with the elementary and secondary teachers for possible pacing guide and curricular adjustment.
  • Approves all Continuing Education Credits (Professional Development hours) for all certificated employees of the school district.
  • Serves as a manager/facilitator for the student information system (Realtime), responsible for setting up observation schedules, observation date windows, SGO and PDP windows, CEC windows and approvals, etc.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and assists with the annual evaluation process of certificated staff throughout the district.
  • Serves as the District Mentoring Coordinator.
  • Serves as Chairperson of The District DEAC committee.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of ESSA grants and related programs and assumes oversight of Title monies and accounts.
  • Researching and securing grants to improve District programs and enhance student achievement.
  • Completes reports, in preparation for NJQSAC, as well as the annual development of district goals and strategic plans as directed by the CSA.
  • Develops the 3-year ESL plan for the district.
  • Assists in the coordination and planning of the New Teacher Workshops in September and throughout the school year.
  • Serves as a planning member of the Hudson County Professional Development Consortium.
  • Prepares and presents a yearly District Testing Report for presentation in the September board meetings.
  • Facilitates monthly Education Committee meetings for the Board of Education.
  • Schedules facilitates and organizes grade level and departmental meetings to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the district's instructional programs.
  • Secures and makes available to the staff samples of various instructional materials, textbooks, and curriculum guides; and explores opportunities for piloting textbooks and programs of study.
  • Coordinates the selection of textbooks and instructional materials throughout the District through the use of a faculty committee.
  • In the absence of the Superintendent of Schools, the Director shall serve as Acting Superintendent of Schools.

·Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

SALARY, & EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

 
Salary: Current starting salary $132,000 as per the 2023-2025 Directors Contract
 
Employment Period:            2024-2025 School Year
