The Shore Center, a public school for students with autism is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a leave replacement teaching position.
The candidate must have the following qualifications:
- NJ Certification as Teacher of Physical Education - Required
- NJ Certification as Teacher of Special Education or Teacher of Handicapped - preferred
- Experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum - Preferred

Qualifications:
1. New Jersey Department of Educational Services Teacher Certificate in field of instruction
2. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge in the discipline of Physical Education
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Reports To: Supervisor and/or Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and level of materials.
2. Provide Physical Education instruction to students ranging in ages (3 to 21 years old) and abilities and implement a Physical Education program which provides appropriate learning experiences for each student, developing student skills in concepts related physical mental, emotional and social health.
3. Provide individual and group instruction by adapting the Physical Education curriculum to the needs of each student.
4. Utilize a repertoire of all types of physical activities that are appropriate for the skill levels of the students.
5. Study and review pertinent concepts related to physical, mental, emotional and social health to continue to enrich the Physical Education curriculum.
6. Expose students to physical activities through sports and fitness and other lifelong activities related to physical movement.
7. Take the leading role in the development of the Physical Education curriculum.
8. Advocate for lifelong health and fitness for all students.
9. Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
10. Assess student achievement related to desired educational goals, objectives and outcomes. Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
11. Manage the behavior of students in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process.
12. Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with other professional staff, both school and non-school based, as required to maximize learning opportunities.
13. Request assistance of and work with resource personnel as needed.
14. Supervise and assign work to classroom aides and parent/student volunteers, if appropriate.
15. Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
16. Assist with identifying needed Physical Education materials and supplies for each school year. Write appropriate requisitions for needed materials and supplies and submit to the appropriate personnel for processing.
17. Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are in good condition and accessible to students.
18. Participate in program-wide student activities.
19. Participate in the writing implementation of educational plans and reviews as required.
20. Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at a field of work as required.
21. Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required.
22. Perform all other duties as assigned by principal and /or supervisor.
