TITLE: Preschool Teacher – Handicapped / TOSD
Reports To: Principal
Certification Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s level degree in the area of Special Education
- New Jersey Teacher Certification as:
- Teacher of the Handicapped or
- Preschool to 3rd grade
- Teacher of Students with Disabilities
- Criminal History background check
Function of the Position:
To assist in the operation of the district’s programs through those duties assigned by the Superintendent and should include, but not necessarily are limited to:
overseeing and coordinating the daily functions of the classroom
promoting the total development of each student within the school environment
helping students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women
developing an effective program which provides services to the students and adheres to, and in compliance with P.L. 94-142, N.J.S.A. 18A:46 and N.J.A.C. 6:28
Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparing daily and long range plans which produce direction for efficient and effective classroom instruction.
- Prepares detailed substitute lesson plans
- Develops lesson plans according to policy
- Demonstrates long range planning
- Utilizes units of study
- Gathers materials for lesson
- Provides materials to account for individual differences
- Develops teacher-made materials
- Provides student work on chalkboard, etc
- Implements lesson goals/objectives that are easily identifiable
- Demonstrates content competency
- Provides lesson motivation
- Previews and utilizes supplementary materials/resources
Providing an instructional program that is commensurate with the child’s needs and ability, and permits positive student progress.
- Applies various diagnostic methods
- Interprets diagnostic methods
- Applies diagnostic data effectively
- Groups for instructional purpose
- Provides instructional experiences for students success
- Provides individual student assistance in cognitive and affective domain
- Set expectation levels for achievement
- Applies fair evaluative testing practices
- Uses supportive services, when necessary
Implementing instructional practices and curricula in accordance with requirements of the State of New Jersey and the Board of Education.

- Executes effective daily lessons
- Instructs in sequential order in accordance with grade level curricula
- Employs a variety of methods, techniques, and teaching strategies
- Exhibits flexibility in utilizing incidental opportunities for learning
- Provides experiences that relate to daily living
- Provides periodic, comprehensive evaluation
- Guides students toward self-discipline and organization
- Incorporates use of work-study skills in the learning process
- Provides opportunities for students to recognize and develop talents
- Develops a sense of responsibility in scholastic and personal improvement
- Encourages student self-evaluation
- Provides opportunities for peer group interaction
- Utilizes audio-visual materials, resource people, etc., effectively to enhance instruction where applicable
- Plans field trips relative to curricula
- Maintains quality control for student work
- Evaluates and returns students’ work
- Communicates effectively
- Instructs pupil in the proper care and use of tools and/or equipment
- Plans for re-teaching, review, and maintenance

Terms of Employment:
Ten-month year. Salary and work your to be according to current contract.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
