The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Supervisor of Telephone Systems within the Division of Information Techonolgy.
This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.
DEFINITION: Under direction, supervises a program or employees and performs work involved in the maintenance of an automated telephone system; does other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Four (4) years of experience in the operation of a telephone switching system, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
2. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Organizes work and develops effective work methods.
2. Takes requests for any corrections, repairs, additions, or removal of telephone equipment for entire system.
3. Does feasibility studies and determines necessity of request for telephone service.
4. Advises telephone company of necessary corrections, repairs, additions, or removals and makes necessary arrangements.
5. Reviews bills for all telephone extensions and works closely with the Finance Department for analysis of telephone usage.
6. Makes recommendations on the installation or removal of equipment based on usage analysis.
7. Supervises the completion, updating, and printing of the municipal telephone directory.
8. Arranges work schedules for assigned telephone operators and gives them assignments and instructions.
9. Prepares reports.
10. Supervises the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
11. Reviews accuracy of computerized records and utilization data for analysis of telephone device usage.
12. Reports all necessary information to data processing unit for computerized billing and directory systems.
13. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
14. Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the usage involved and of the needs of various departments and employees after a period of training.
2. Knowledge of how to perform supervisory tasks.
3. Knowledge of methods and procedures used in keeping records and files.
4. Ability to organize work and develop effective work methods.
5. Ability to give assignments and instructions.
6. Ability to work harmoniously with representatives of the telephone company
7. Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance of records and files.
8. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
9. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
1. Salary: $70,970 - $90,019
2. Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
3. Union Affiliation: Local 32
