Special Education High School Math Teacher

The Calais School is a state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs. The school serves students in grades K through 12 Plus with multiple learning disabilities.  

As a teacher in a special education school, you will be responsible to teach students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. You will adapt general education lessons in high school grade level Math to students with mild and moderate disabilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Planning lessons in Math
• Assessing students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses
• Teaching students as an entire class or in small groups
• Grading students’ assignments to monitor progress
• Communicating with parents about students’ progress
• Working with individual students to challenge them, to improve their abilities, and to work on their weaknesses
• Preparing students for standardized tests required by the state
• Developing and enforcing classroom rules
• Supervising students outside of the classroom—for example, at lunchtime or during detention

Job Requirements:

Praxis Endorsement in Math or Teacher of Math Certification

Special Education Certification a plus (Teacher of the Handicapped or Teacher of Students with Disabilities)
