Description Paraprofessional B/ Bus Aide

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested candidates to apply for the position of Paraprofessional B/Bus Aides.

Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral and reading communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups of students and with all levels of school personnel
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • HS Diploma/ GED or Equivalent
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs
Preferred Requirements
  • Prior experience helping students with disabilities in an urban setting (strongly preferred)
  • Prior Bus Aide experience

Role & Responsibilities
Major roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Walk or assist the student from his or her designated drop-off/pick-up address to the bus
  • Maneuver children in his or her wheelchairs and monitor students so that equipment does not shift during transportation
  • Secure wheelchairs for transportation
  • Ensure that students stay in their seats while the bus is in motion
  • Shall assist such students on and off the bus at school, at designated bus stops, and otherwise when it is necessary for their safe entrance and exit from the bus.
  • Shall assist the driver with post-trip inspection procedures, checking especially for passengers, special equipment, medication, etc. that may have been left on board the bus.
  • Adhere to safety rules when loading and unloading pupils.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
  • Utilize established protocols to report any issues or incidents

  • Salary Range: Paraprofessional A Salary Guide ($27,500 - $38,415)
  • Employment Period: 10-month, non-tenureable position
