Description The Shore Center, a public specialized school for students on the autism spectrum, is seeking a NJ Certified School Counselor for the Extended School Year (ESY) 2025.

Location: The Shore Center - 100 Tornillo Way, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712
Dates:  July 1, 2025 - August 7, 2025  (Monday - Thursday)  
Times:  8:15 - 2:15

Orientation: 6/17/25

TITLE: School Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Hold valid DOE certificate as a school counselor.
2. Have experience providing counseling services to students with Autism and developmental disabilities.
3. Display a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and sensitive interpersonal skills to relate well to students, staff, administration, parents/guardians, and community members.
4. Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to NJ’s mental health system and special education
5. Demonstrates effective problem-solving, communications, organization, planning, record keeping, and human relations skills.
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide individual and group counseling sessions
2. Disseminate information regarding mental health awareness to faculty and staff
3. Conduct weekly social skills lessons for all students
4. Develop curriculum and/or resources in response to identified areas of improvement
5. Participate in IEP meetings for students who require mental health services
6. Develop individual and group counseling goals consistent with students’ mental health needs
7. Serve as a member of the school climate team
8. Present staff professional development including providing information to faculty and staff regarding mental health wellness
9. Coordinate school and community resources promoting positive mental health to assist all stakeholders
10. Participate in crisis situations and offer recommendations for resolving specific mental health-related crises.
11. Perform such other duties and assume such other tasks as may be assigned by the Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the BJC’s board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
